15 high tors challenge
14th-16th august 2026
15 TORS FOR 15 YEARS
Our son Joshua’s death in 2011 led to the creation of THE GOOD GRIEF PROJECT and we are now looking for 15 intrepid individuals to join us for this fundraising challenge to help those on low incomes attend our Active Grief Weekend retreats.
OPEN to all bereaved parents and siblings and their immediate friends.
THE DARTMOOR 15 HIGH TORS CHALLENGE

14th – 16th August 2026
In honour and memory of our son Joshua (he died suddenly in a road accident in Vietnam 15 years ago) we are dedicating our annual fundraising challenge to his memory. 15 tors then for 15 years and we invite you to join us.
Joshua’s death lead to the creation of THE GOOD GRIEF PROJECT and we are now looking for 15 intrepid individuals firstly to complete the challenge but also to raise funds to assist those on low incomes to attend our Active Grief Weekend retreats.
As in previous years Good Grief Challenges are open to any bereaved parent or sibling as well as their immediate friends and/or family BUT ….
….. BE WARNED
…. this is no walk in the park. In order to complete the challenge, we will be undertaking a 20 mile trek over some of Dartmoor’s wildest terrain (much of it off-piste!) climbing and descending some 2000 metres of elevation as we check off 15 of its lesser-known but highest tors (anything over 300 metres) – all in under 10 hours.
THINK YOU CAN DO IT?
There’s no doubt it is a challenge. Just like grief is a challenge – a bit like the topography of DARTMOOR – its wild and rugged and there are many ups and downs, – you need stamina and tenacity to navigate its unpredictability. But it also has a strange and awesome beauty with many welcome surprises – just like grief!

HOW DO I JOIN UP?
We are looking to form a team of 15 hardy souls alongside our group leaders Jimmy Edmonds (TGGP co founder and Joshua’s Dad), Joe Edmonds (Personal trainer and Joshua’s brother) and two experienced Dartmoor guides. (Remember you must be either a bereaved parent or sibling or a close friend to apply)
The Good Grief Project will cover the cost of accommodation at Bernards Acre for the whole weekend. We arrive arrive at the bunkhouse on Friday evening (14th August for a bring and share supper), then trek all day Saturday followed by an evening meal in the local pub. Departure is on Sunday (16th August) after breakfast.
We like to think that walking and talking connects us with our grief in an active, expressive and healthy way. Achieving this challenge not only makes us fitter, it offers an opportunity to walk in memory of our loved ones and in solidarity with others.
The cost to join is £100 but this will be refunded once you’ve reached a fundraising total of £1000. (We will help you set up a fundraising page) Importantly you will be helping us provide places in the programme for those on low income. As we know grief can be especially burdensome for the economically and socially disadvantaged, and we want to make sure that they don’t become even more isolated as a result.

YORKSHIRE DALES
YORKS 3 PEAKS FUNDRAISING CHALLENGE

18th- 20th JULY 2025
People have often asked us to arrange a longer walk and talk event than we are able to provide on our ACTIVE GRIEF WEEKEND retreats. Here’s your chance to join us for a 25 mile adventure in the Yorkshire Dales. Exclusive to bereaved parents and siblings, our challenge is to scale Yorkshire’s three well known peaks – Pen-y-Ghent(694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingelborough (723m) in under 12 hours – and to raise funds to support our Active Grief Programme, including Grief-Fit.
We like to think that walking and talking connects us with our grief in an active, expressive and healthy way. Achieving this challenge not only makes us fitter, it offers an opportunity to walk in memory of our loved ones and in solidarity with others.
The final details are yet to be worked out, but bunkhouse accomodation will be free and you will be expected to raise around £1000 in aid of our work. Importantly you will be helping us provide places in the programme for those on low income. As we know grief can be especially burdensome for the economically and socially disadvantaged, and we want to make sure that they don’t become even more isolated as a result.

WHEN WORDS ARE NOT ENOUGH - an online presentation with Jane and Jimmy

WHERE: ONLINE
WHEN: TUESDAY 24th OCTOBER / 7.00 pm EST (ie New York time)
which is: WEDNESDAY 25TH OCTOBER BST (ie UK time)
As part of their monthly workshops the New York based Cope Foundation together with The Pinelawn Memorial and Arboretum have invited us to give an online presentation in which we discuss our own grief journey following the death of our son Joshua in 2011. How have we come to understand grief as almost by definition a ‘creative endeavour’? What do we understand by an active and intentional grief? Using clips from our films and testimonies from our Active Grief Weekend retreats, as well as examples from WHEN WORDS ARE NOT ENOUGH – creative responses to grief, we will attempt to answer these and many other questions.
